Just look up
And see the tall shadow that used to be there
He was so much taller than you then
Because you were small
And his hand doubled yours
Swallowed it up as it held yours

You were nothing but smiles, a smile that matched his
Nothing but care free innocence
Missing him and crying when you couldn't catch up to him
Watching his broad shoulders and back

But he was always there
A never changing thing
A thing that should always be there
A thing you can lean on
A sturdy built tower
With just a few cracks in the foundation
But those can be fixed with time, or don't need it at all

Don't forget the long talks and the stories
Hold onto the memories and remember how to smile
Be strong for him
And everything will work out in the end

Just hold his hand
And look him in the eye, finally tall enough
And able to fit in his boots now
